The Challenge
The Lawn Tennis Association wanted to do a PopUpTennis Tour in busy public spaces across London, the South East, South West and the Midlands regions during the summer of 2015. The aim of the Tour was to engage new participants, promote opportunities to play tennis locally, and promote major tennis Championship events.
Meeting the Challenge
PopUpArena’s role at each event was to set up and take down the PopUpCourts, the LTA and local clubs/partners role was to deliver the coaching sessions and activities. PopUpArena would also be on hand throughout the day to help out where required, and at the end of the day ensure the site was left as on arrival – often cleaner!
The Outcome
Tennis was taken to where people were and their facilities were not: High Streets, Shopping Centres, Market Squares, Promenades, Parks and Open Spaces. With 45 events across 10 cities - in excess of 10,000 participants had a go at tennis. Local clubs and coaches were able to promote and sign-post opportunities to play back at their clubs for on going participation. Tennis became mobile and accessible to more people, and a lot of fun was had playing tennis.
